What we do with what you share
BOAN.ink asks people to be honest with themselves. The least we can do is be honest with you about the information that passes through this site. This page is written to be read, not to be survived.
Who is responsible
BOAN.ink (Back of a Napkin. Ink.) is an applied behavioural science practice founded and run by Valur Svansson in London, United Kingdom. For anything on this page, including a request to see or delete your data, the contact is hello@boan.ink. For formal data requests we can also provide a postal address on request [postal address to be added before go-live].
What we collect, and only when you offer it
We do not collect anything from casual visitors beyond what any web server logs to stay online. You actively give us information at two points, and only if you choose to:
- The Root Self Assessment. When you sign up you give a name and an email address, and you confirm that email through a second click. Inside the assessment, conducted by knotomo.hi, you provide written answers about yourself. Those answers are the substance of the work.
- The debrief booking. If you book a thirty minute debrief, you share the details a calendar needs: name, email, and the time you choose.
Why we hold it
To deliver the thing you asked for, and nothing else. Your name and email let us send your assessment link, your unique code, and your result. Your answers let the assessment do its job and let us prepare your debrief. The lawful basis is your consent, given when you opt in, and you can withdraw it at any time.
We do not sell your data. We do not use it to advertise to you, and we do not pass it to advertisers.
Where it lives, and who processes it
To run the practice we rely on a small number of established providers. Each one only ever sees what it needs to do its part:
- Vercel hosts the site and the assessment.
- Notion is where assessment records are logged so we can prepare your result and debrief.
- Microsoft 365 Bookings handles debrief scheduling.
- Anthropic provides the AI model that reads and responds to your written answers inside the assessment. To be plain about it: the text you enter is processed by an AI system in order to return a reading. It is not a human reading every word in real time.
Some of these providers operate outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Where that is the case, transfers are covered by the safeguards those providers maintain for handling personal data.
How long we keep it
While the practice is in private beta we keep assessment records for as long as needed to deliver and improve the work, and no longer than that. If you ask us to delete your data, we will, except where we are required to keep a limited record for legal reasons.
Cookies and tracking
This site does not run advertising trackers or third party analytics that profile you. Fonts and icons are served from our own domain, so loading a page here does not quietly call out to Google or anyone else. Any cookie we do set is the kind a site needs to function, not to follow you.
The control you keep
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- show you the data we hold about you,
- correct it if it is wrong,
- delete it,
- stop using it, by withdrawing your consent.
Write to hello@boan.ink and we will act on it. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
This will change as we grow
BOAN.ink is early. As the practice takes shape this page will be updated, and the date below will move with it.
